Hippie Heretic’s blog post on reframing the raging hell debates is so amazing and such out of the box thinking on the topic, that I have posted it to discussion threads over, and over, and over. So many times, in fact, that I think a reblog is in order. So here I post it to keep it in my archives forever, and ever. Or was that only temporarily? And am I posting this to help you or punish you? Read the blog to get my jest. 🙂

Wow. Thank you for sharing this link. It has me thinking that the same thought processes could be used for ‘what was the purpose of the cross?’

This was indeed thought provoking. It does not however deal with the ultimate sovereignty of God, and God’s purpose as stated by Paul in Ephesians chapter one. When Paul says, and had someone write, Ephesians 1:3-6. He states unequivocally that God’s purpose in creation was redemption. Further, that his purpose in creation was to the glory of his grace. This leads to an inescapable conclusion. If God is love, then which of the answers to the question must be correct. That is… God being the creator, and us being the creation, who ultimately has control over the outcome? It has to be God since Paul later on in that same chapter says that God works EVERYTHING to the purpose of His will. Since we find out from Peter that He (God) is not willing that any should perish but that ALL should come to repentance, we are left with a much narrower field of solutions. So, if God created the universe with redemption as his purpose, why would any ultimately perish? This demands that one looks at other conclusions about the meaning of the Gehenna message in scripture. Just saying….
